Welcome to Reception!

There are 2 Reception classes, the Woodpeckers class and the Wise Owls class.

Miss Hopkinson teaches Woodpeckers on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Ms Baker teaches Woodpeckers Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

Wise Owls

Mrs Hobbis teaches Wise Owls on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Mrs Cole teaches Wise Owls Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Miss Hunt, Mrs Gibbs and Miss Towner will work across the team.

Both classes work closely and collaboratively in a team approach.

A structured, but free-flow approach to learning is taken, where the children can access the curriculum in a variety of ways, both indoors and out. Each child is encouraged to meet their full potential through active learning in a secure environment.

Parents As Partners

We will continue to communicate with you using a variety of ways:

Termly Newsletters As well as school newsletters, you will also receive a bulletin all about Reception. This will come to you via your child’s book bag.
A weekly Dear Parents letter This will give you reminders and information about the week ahead as well as ways to support your child at home. You will find this on the blue noticeboard on the top playground by the side entrance into school.
Terrific Tree Toppers We will continue to celebrate new achievements with you by displaying Terrific Tree Toppers on our board. Please share with us your news for example; if your child put their jumper on for the first time or helped to make biscuits at home etc. jot it down on a topper!
Our website pages Keep looking at the website for up to date information for the school and nursery.
Social Media Follow us on Facebook and Twitter @MissVeness_RSW & @MrsHobbis_RSW
Forest School Each term a different group of children will take part in Forest Schools. This is an exciting time to work with dedicated Forest School Staff on our academy site. Your child will receive a letter in the term when their visit is allocated to keep you informed.
announcement We operate an open door policy...

...where all the Reception staff are happy to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. Your child’s teacher will be available to receive short messages in the mornings and will be happy to talk to you at the end of the day. Please make an appointment if you require a longer meeting.

Learning Journey Hocus Pocus

Monday, 8th May, 2:50 PM

This term we will be exploring the theme Hocus Pocus. We will be focusing on texts containing witches, magic and potions. The children will be making their brews and spells and making labels and books. We will be learning new vocabulary and we will continue with our daily Letters and Sounds sessions so keep working with your child to develop their blending and segmenting skills. Remember to keep practicing key ring words. Ask your Teacher when you need a new card.

In maths we will be exploring number bonds to 5 and then 10 to help us to solve some magic number problems.

We have noticed that our children need more experience talking about and naming 3d shapes such as cylinder cube and cuboid. We will be finding lots of ways to explore this in school.

Our celebration afternoon this term will be a Cream Tea when we will bake scones for our Mums, Grandmas and Aunties.

Please come along and join us 2.15-3pm on Wednesday 31st March

Physical Skills

The children have improved their independence skills and most can dress and undress on their own
